Service Competencies

Perspective

Service is one of the most important components of my approach to scholarship; it allows me to contribute directly to the academic organizations and people who are interested in our field. Furthermore, service helps me to meet new people from different countries and different backgrounds. In the beginning of my service journey, I started helping teachers and principals to use technology I first became involved with service activities by helping people with their uses of technology. While I have a wide range of experience in technology integration, I have found it helpful to target service opportunities in which my primary skills can most benefit organizations and people with whom I can work further with in the future.

Through the doctoral program, I have arranged service activities relating to the review of scholarly work and active participation in academic organizations.  I have been serving as a reviewer for the Journal of Computing in Higher Education (JCHE), and for the Journal of Technology, Knowledge and Learning since 2015, and I have also reviewed for the AECT Convention (2016), Distance Learning Division, Design & Development Showcase, Design & Development Division. Furthermore, I was a facilitator for two sessions in the AECT International Convention in 2015. Additionally, I have reviewed for IST 2015 & 2016. This transition represented a shift in my services approach, aligning my service activities more strongly with my research focus, thus further integrating my approach as a developing scholar.
